“Break & Connection” opens a space that gives time to pause and paves the way for new connections. Grupo Oito investigates the break as a moment to explore other realities, to adopt new perspectives and perceive differently: to understand order through disorder, to discover the invisible alongside the visible, to bring together the secular and the spiritual. In doing so, the group continues its exploration of postcolonialism and racism and looks for ways to come together in new, anti-racist ways. To do this, the familiar is broken open and questioned – be it previous ways of working, dance conventions or even social contexts and personal attitudes. An installative setting invites the audience to make their own way through different worlds, to take a breath and to adopt new perspectives.
History is not the past, it is the present. We carry our history with us. We are our history.
